"A 2nd problem is that the submissions to XSI Net are not regulated. Who
determines which plugins/scripts/shaders are worthy of installation onto a
user's machine?"

Wouldn't a ratings system kind of self regulate things those? If you
have a "out of 10 stars" for everything from shaders, plugins,
tutorials, etc, users rate, it should with time get more and more
efficient when trying to find the good stuff.

The problem is that you'd still need to employ someone to deal with
version changes, keeping everything updated, etc. Also you need a
human touch in order to display these things.. show users what's new
and great, etc.

Come to think of it, how far really IS xsibase way from what we're
talking about here? With a bit of funding and a few areas improved
(search), uploading, and keeping everything hosted local to the Base
so links don't get broken, etc, how far off the mark would it be?
Maybe instead of trying to reinvent the wheel Softimage should look at
supporting an established resource and replace xsiNet with xsiBase ?

Regards,
Simon.
