while we are on the topic, here are a few render tree features i would like to see.

-dont lock materials when they are influenced by overrides.

-enable overrides to interject mid tree rather than completely override a branch, ie inserting a raytype before the material.

-always show overrides in partitions, so you dont have to switch to them to edit/ see them.

which i hope will continue to get enhancements...

-overriding cluster based materials
-improved SDK access
-speed/performance
-work flow enhancements. it is good now, just as other parts of the software changes work flow may be affected. the pass view in v6 is a little harder to navigate than it was before. the new functionality is welcome but so is working easily with this new functionality
