I wrote a little bit on XSI base about how I rigged the
bird I'm working on... Don't know if it's of any use to you - excuse the
waffle!!

Hey Chris
Haha, thats funny.
Its not uh on my resume for some reason (please be kind it was just a pitch project we got stuck on), but
I was in f'ing bird wing hell for this project:
http://www.luciferthemovie.com/
-had decent animators controls based on this paper:
http://grail.cs.washington.edu/projects/flight/wu2003realistic.html
note diagram on page 3 for where bends should occur and types of joints to use.
-wings fully articulated, opened, closed, option to bend in anatomically incorrect but animators requested cartoon ways etc
-had smooth transition of feathers across bones and feathers did not flip or overlap much even in extreme positions unlike on the usual wing rig egs out there,
-very little overlap of feathers (not visible in shots anyway),
-blended shader of hair to instantiated feathers to geo feathers (texture space across instantiates etc is tricky)
-hair to feather wind dynamics (thanks to the real 3d noise tool deved by highly skilled Ben Barker, sorry but xsis is crapstatic)
-etc etc anyway so much to deal with, give me call later tnite Ill tell you about it and help.
Cheers to you in T.O.
Graham

I found feather stuff but I'm looking specifically for a bird wing.
