Before the python crowd really get going I'd like to stick my oar in and cast a vote for JScript.

while jscript is an object oriented language it's also a classless language that, really does benefit from a prototypical inheritance
design pattern. i find it a much more fluid coding experience than the (arguably) stoic classicism of python although, the bigger the codebase gets the more python /classical OO starts to make sense.

true that returns from xsi can be a pain in the arse at times but a large portion of that can be factored out by wrapping/re-writing the vb code/commands into something more accessible to javascript.

other plus points for me are net view access/coding (ajax in netview is actually fun and impresses the neighbours) the very smooth transition to C# or JScript.net (or even c++ if the mood takes you), there's no messing about with external libs/installs and, syntactically, it's very similar to piccolo.

in essense, a lightweight and fully functional language that has a ton of support in xsi.

once you need access to database/dx9/xna my first choice would have to be C#.net.

of course, all in my opinion.

Hello,

I’ve been granted a temporary window out of the production pipeline and am being sent to learn a new programming language.

Ideally, I’d like to use this new tool to expand my use of XSI and eventually use it with Behaviour.

I have a background in programming (cobol, fortran, pascal, basic) which means getting into structure and logic of this new language should not be a problem.

I’ve heard a few opinions about Python over VBscript.

Is there something better out there compatible with XSI and Behaviour?

What holds the best results with the most potential (if possible)?

If anyone has some real world experiences and their opinion on this that they’d like to share, that will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and have a goodday.
