It's the other way around from where Oscar had it - famd service needs
to be running gamin is able to automatically kick itself off.

Though I have a feeling gamin is now the officially supported one for
XSI (was previously fam) I've found issues running gamin here
(extremely long delays with anything that touches a file - even
bringing up the explorer). It had seemed to be fixed if I stuck to
gamin 0.1.7, but the issues quickly resurfaced so I switched to fam
and added it to the default level init services. That's cleared up the
issues here and it's all running snappily.

Cheers,

Alan.

If it is there to be installed it probably is meant to be started somehow.
I did also Strace the installation and found bunch of libraries and stuff
missing like libstdc.so++. Much more than written on requirements. I can't
place much more effort on this, beyond my knowledge and interest, and I do
believe running xsi on Gentoo is easier atm.
