We've used XSI exclusively for our 3-D layout work on "SpyKids-3D", "The
Adventures Shark Boy and LavaGirl" and presently "Journey to the Center of
the Earth". Realtime stereo or anaglyph viewing is fairly easy* to setup in
XSI by piping two cameras to a realtime window, forget output shaders, they
are sooo '90s.
We set up anaglyph sessions with layout artists to approve the "3-D effect"
of every shot by outputting the XSI display to a big screen monitor or
projector, with tweaks right on the spot, layouts and live plates and all.
Not a fun process, but the way of filming a stereo movie has drastically
evolved the past 18 months so it's now much easier to work with. I have no
trouble believing the recent plethora of articles claiming it's "the future
of cinema".
*By fairly easy, I mean for a decent developper of course.
