You'll want to use a cut map rather than a density map (density will
control the frequency rather than the length).
Create a texture map (get->property->texture map) and connect it to that.
Don't remember exact steps - there may as been something required to
transfer it to somewhere usable by hair, but I'm not sure on that as
the memory is a bit vague.
