Not sure if it’s a component or not, but the architectural shader is pretty cool. There’s some pretty cool options in the ‘Additional Options’ tab, notably the ‘Turn Off Weak Internal Reflections’ options. Very Nice….

BTW Francois, the Glossy Reflection shader is pretty cool in 6.x .. It helps the problem a lot, although I’m not sure it will solve the problem completely. I don’t have the real scene in front of me right now, but testing it with something else showed that it might work. And if I remember correctly, I was using the T2S_Illumination node in the original scene…  That might be even trickier.

If someone from Softimage is listening – if you do a search in the installation directory of XSI 6.xx, there’s an image called ‘glossy_render_backside.jpg’. It illustrates the rendering of the back of the material as “inside” or “outside”.

It looks like what I’m looking for, however in the Glossy_Reflection shader, there’s no ON/OFF option for this feature.

Is this an unexposed mental ray feature? Can I get to it?

 Thanks all,

Francois, do you know if this shader is a component of the architectural shader?

Hi Michaël,

In XSI 6.x, there is a new reflection shader that can fade its effect
according to the distance. It's not in the Nodes menu though. You have
to select "More..." to get to the file browser and select the shader
called Glossy_Reflection.
