having been where I think Brad is now, I would say (for my case), no, it wouldn't do.

When you trace scans or retopologize is when things like alwaysComplete clusters, shrink wrap, operators stack and the add edge and new poly tools -REALLY- make XSI shine over pretty much anything else (yes, including silo, sorry but the topology brush is a lovely gimmick but doesn't make up for not having a construction history and a full fledged app).

What makes xsi shine is largely the flow. If you start doubling up commands and clicks, instead of being able to just use one command and click your way through a long serie of edges, you lose what makes XSI's interaction model so great for such tasks.

While it's not showstopping, groundbreaking, lifeshattering or puppythreatening, there are some minor tweaks here and there that all summed up would amount to less time and petty frustration while modeling. Better control over "hot spots", and the option to link such things to a modifier key being pressed or not, would definitely end up in the "yes please" bin for me.

Well, I was working in the bug database anyway so I logged:

No promises, though, I'm just a tech writer.

One possible workaround: Can you temporarily switch to Add Vertex (Insert key) to add a point, and then back to Add Edge and let it snap to the new point?

I've been harping on this in a few posts myself Brad. The modeling toolset is great but could definitly use a hyperboost as soon as the moondust settles.

We're going quite a bit of modeling these days in XSI, both in linux and windows. The style of modeling is a lot of building topologies on top of other topologies which has its own workflow issues when compared to freeform modeling.

For example, all the auto snapping behavior of creating polygons and edges seems to fight with the generic snapping behavior. If it were possible, it would be nice to get that behavior wrapped into the rest of snapping, or at least provide some options on sensitivity. I see quite of few of our guys get frustrated every now and again with how the polygon or edge creation tools try to latch onto something outside of the desired target.

Hopefully, these tools will get another pass at some point, with topology regeneration in mind.

Not really... It happens when the camera is in some weird angle in the
viewport. And as much I can zoom in, sometimes I can just never add the
edge where I want to.
I'm not doing much modeling these days, but next time it comes up I'll
send you a scene.
Thanks!
