Maybe it's one of those nice un-documented features but on my
splitedgeop options
there is a 'Ratio Edge' param that does exatly this.

But you can click a bit further away and then slide in closer before
you
release the mouse button.

Does anyone know if it is possible to tune the sensitivity of the auto
snapping functionality when using the SplitEdge tool ('\' key)?
There are many circumstances where I don't want my new edge line
connecting to an existing vertex, but by default, XSI fights me about
this unless I'm zoomed in very close.
