The new version took a look of time and it definately more useable than the last version.
So also thanks for your feedback and feature request while running v2.0.
PS: About the for the smoke warp, I would use hte new distort feature:

Oh and those texture coordinates between grids, I realized that you are probably not limited to grids.
So you could use a rigged character with UV's, dublicate and push it and you should get a textured volume hull for the character.
