-mental ray renders to 8-bit, I think it filters the 8-bit samples and not
-floating point samples, so that would explain why you'd get different results.
Ahhh if that's correct then jaggies in float make more sense. I was under the impression that MR was handeling floating pixels differently, but it seems like it may be the other way around. Clamped image get extra filtering that float images do not.
I also did some render tests in Maya/MR and produced the same result as XSI/MR.
But I'm still wondering why 3Delight produces a visually antialiased result while maintaining floating data. I also did a test in LW and it also looks visually antialiased. FPrime however does not and looks exactly like MR. Could it be that LW and 3Delight are cheating and filtering the pixels to look smooth?
I've attached a test render from 3Delight. as you'll see there is very little visual difference.
