And if you don't want to
install Chinny's dodgy plugin... ;-)
Go into File -> Keyboard Mapping and under the XSI
group you will find a "Perspective View" command you can bind to any key you
want.
There are also commands
in there for Left/Right/Top/Bottom View, Isometric View and even a Scene Camera
View which cycles through the scene cameras.
You can pretty much do
anything you want to the view cameras in scripting and the commands above (which
can be found in uixsiscripts.vbs under the XSI installation) use the lower level
commands Chinny is referring to below.

As a quick start - you
can right click on the icon buttons in the bottom left of the default
layout. These control the viewports.
Later you can look in the
docs for:
GetFocusedViewport
GetViewCamera
and even
Get Chinny's Plugin :-)
Which has its own Viewport API as well as
viewport switching commands which are even easier to use
