Cardinal shape interpolation when blending weights between shape clips

Subject : Cardinal shape interpolation when blending weights between shape clips

I only seem to be able to use cardinal shape transitions when mixing between shapes; if I want to blend using weight values the interpolation seems to always be linear, regardless of what I set in shape prefs. Is this correct or am I missing something obvious?
