yes yes yes.
that would be fantastic.
i was discussing something similar a while back, i just mentioned a
custom user default preset and a drop down list if more than one is
present.
your approach is more sophisticated, ie defaults per user, per project,
or even workgroup prescribed.

I
usually use the hide trick and it works. Maybe the explorer trick
depends on features of the graphics card, and the way it is drawing and
overlaying its buffers? I also have two comments for improvements.
1) I think it would be nice to have the ability to have different click
types pull up different default presets for operators. The main reason
for doing this would be to allow for a preset where the operator starts
out muted. But you could also have a third option that is a user
default or something. I think maybe that would be a nice feature. The
first thing I would do for myself would be to make a preset for the
pose constraint that has scale disabled by default.
2) There are ways to set this up just with scripting and tools already
available, but I think it would be worthwhile to think about how to
make XSI systematically customizable on a project-by-project basis. I
mean, things like the default framerate can be set in the preferences,
but really what I want is the ability to set defaults for a project,
then have XSI smartly use the settings I've prepared for the project
I'm currently working on. So maybe there's like a pull-down for
projects or something.

ha, it works :)
since i read the list (v4) i dont recall that this came up. i remember
spdl hacking, but not just simply save a preset(or overwrite the
original one).
there is a similiar function in fusion, where you can save a preset
for a tool AND you can save a new default right away. that is a very
much easy and fast way to change the way the tools get created.
something like this could be nice here as well. i dont know if i would
always find the right preset for the operator iam opening.
bradley, the explorer trick doesnt quite work for me. i import an obj
and wanna weld it. i open an explorer (5), resize it so it covers all
the viewports and then execute the weld operator. now xsi sits there
and calculates the weld. anything i do wrong here?

it sounds like a very nifty trick. however it doesnt work with polygon
reduction or my weld boundary points/edges.
i added a value = 0.01 to my weld spdl, but it doesnt work. the value
doesnt get set when i run the command (restarted xsi).
