Here´s my personal follow up on Vista64, mint install,
prior to having XSI setup and running on a consumer
level Core2Quad 2,4GHz, 8GB RAM, Nvidia 7900GT.
(it´s rating 4.9, with the RAM performance poorest).
First of all, it´s dogslow and a memory hog.
I should have ordered XP64 instead of constantly
wasting ~ one of my cores and 1-1.25 GB RAM for
a more or less idle Vista desktop with UAC on top.
(User Access Control, "You sure you wanna do this?")
After configuring things back to Windows Classic look
and sifting through all sorts of subsubsubsublevel options
I am back to the XP/W2K look&feel exhausted...
The frustrating thing is, the 1.25 footprint and 25-30%
CPU usage with idle desktop is still there.
I think I´ll buy an XP64 lic tommorrow.
Cheers
tim

Doesn´t the default quicktime installer for windows xp/vista
work for you? I´m pretty sure I´ve watched *.mov files
encoded in H.264 on XP64 using the Quicktime Player.
The apple/quicktime page just lists these requirements:
° Pentium processor-base PC or compatible computer
° At least 128MB of RAM
° Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Vista
I must admit I never even tried installing Quicktime under XP64. I read
everywhere that it did not work (and believed them...)
Does it install and work for 32 bit apps?
