I actually just started using Gmail for all my email management.  I have a business email address I use for clients that's set up with 1and1.com but I use Gmail now for the interface.  I love having everything in one place and accessible all the time from anywhere I go.  I can't say I've had any problems with Gmail except for the random times it checks your POP accounts.  I think they use some kind of varying algorithm that periodically checks it based on usage and volume of emails coming from it.  I know its been heavily requested for a set user time you can specify to have it checked though.  I think things like Gmail will eventually replace software based email programs.  Just my 2 cents.

Any of those free services are a poor choice for business mail. We host
the Fusion mailing list, and I can tell you that almost every day even the
beloved GMail delays mail for hour and hours due to some issue on their
end (4xx response code). Also, many attachments are blocked.
