setting weight map values

is it me or is the inability to use the "weight editor" to edit the values of a weight map upsetting? i can use clusters to get what i need for now, but with the weight editor i can verify certain point indexes have the values i want and set many values at once, etc

has anyone have any ideas for "interactive" workarounds, before i put together some excel sheet export/import tools?
