well, i think.....to"...move things in a different direction..." would have been appreciated ...
but this one doesn't try that (i might be wrong), but from this trailer no "different" direction is guessable.....

anyway......i think i'll have to go and see real animation tonight........SIMPSONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! > DOH!

"Dreadful"? I would love to see your showreel ;)

As for why not do it live action, well why not not? Cartoons don't look real but we enjoy them and we believe the characters. Who made the law that cgi has to look other-worldly or photo-real with no in-between? Personally I think it looks great, the similarity to a game cut scene needn't be a negative connotation and if the visuals are consistently high quality and carry the storyline then I think it could be considered a success.

Restricting the evolution of cg to "what it's best at" seems like a medieval attitude. There are plenty of films with these actors in already and I applaud the effort to move things in a different direction, nothwithstanding a desperate non-desire to see a fat 50 year old Ray Winstone walking around semi-nude, thankyou very much.

I must agree Flinx, this looks dreadful. Two words Final. Fantasy.
A huge geeky technical achievement, but why the hell not do it live action and let the cg do what its best at - creatures, fx and environments.
I'd happily go and see Hoppo, Jolie, Winstone et al in a live action version of this, as it stands, it looks like a massive waste of time and talent. The "humans" look really creepy. <shudder>
Zemeckis needs to have a word with Peter Jackson. Or go away.

Plastic dolls? I find it absolutely stunning visually and am glad there are pioneers out there trying to push the boundaries of digital content creation with movies of this sort.  What I didn't really care for was the recycling of the audio track from 28 weeks later. That movie was like a Sci-Fi channel b- flick with a large budget and for Zemeckis to use it as well makes me think the movie is going to be of similar quality......despite the imagery.
