The really annoying thing is, I’m ¾ way into a curve along curve extrusion tool that just wasn’t quite ready for this job. Here’s some features:-

·         It doesn’t twist in a nasty way along the curve. (that’s a feature? Sheesh).

·         It creates a poly mesh by doing approximately even interpolation steps along the curves. But … it still hits the knots. Which means you get mesh points on the corners but still get (more or less) even sized polys along the curves.

·         You can use more than one profile curve to sweep along a curve. It uses a function curve to interpolate between the profile shapes. Because the interpolation always hits knots you’re guaranteed to be able to correctly blend between shapes like squares and, say hexagons. It does a pretty spiffy job of it too.

·         You can translate, rotate and scale the profile curves, using fcurves to change transforms along the curves.

I’ll have to try and drum up some enthusiasm and get it finished.

Ha ha...what do you know!  Cool!  Learning something everyday still.  Can we get a "doh" from Eric :-) or are we missing something?

I just tried that and it works too. Select either the path or the
profile, choose the command, and pick a new curve.

Well substitute input works with curve deforms or extruding a poly along
a curve but I think Eric is talking about taking an EPS curve and
extruding a mesh from curves.  It would be handy to substitute an input
for this sort of thing.
