Hi
You can do it with te knife tool, if you dont't want it affect the full object , just select the polys you need.

Hope this help!

I think we are on the same page Wayne. The times when it get's very slow is when I need to connect two points through several edges. Then I have to go back in an manually straighten out the hand clicked edge.

This is one of the modeling tools that I find myself needing quite a bit as well. In this instance some would say....well, you have to click once per vertex and then hit the hotkey to connect them for a total of 3 clicks versus just using the add edge tool for a total of 2. That argument fades when you have a ton of verts that you  want to connect. You would just rectangle select a bunch on one side, shft select a bunch on the other side...then hit the yet to be implemented *connect* hotkey. Wings3D has the feature implemented in the fashion I think you are looking for Byron. It's something minor to many folks....but it's the small things like this which make XSI workflow so fast. I hope that I'm wrong and it's already in the package hidden away somewheres. Anyone?

Is there a script or tool to create an edge between two points and intersects perpendicular edges?  I commonly have a situation where I need to make an edge but I want to be able to quickly do it or have it precise on the intersection of an edge. See the attached gif for reference(I hope it's small enough!) The image on the top is what I would like to start with, two tagged points. And the image on the bottom is what I would like to end up with, an edge connecting the two in the shortest distance possible.
