Ok - experimented further. It just doesn't traverse subdirectories -
so the point of symlink, bind etc is moot as without subdirectory
traversal you can't tell. So I tried copying a single ttf over, which
isn't an acceptable working practice in anything more than a one-man
shop anyway, and the new font, which shows up, doesn't actually work.
The text stays the same as whatever it was set to before changing to
this font. Anyone tried anything along these lines?
