Previous versions of XSI would simply bomb and take all your hard work with them. Surely you're not requesting that particular "feature" back? :)
In any case, as the error message suggests, I would appreciate it very much if you could find the time to zip up the scene(s) in question and forward them to support(at)softimage.com so we may figure out ways to ensure you never see this error again.

Subject: 6.02 Mental Ray disable errors
I have been getting an absurd amount of Mental Ray Disable errors where it just decides to shut down when doing crazy things like switching between a depth pass and a beauty pass.... is any body else seeing this????
and while we are at it, can we just change the error to: "Hey you weren't
using Mental Ray, were you? I'm just going to shut the thing off...you know...since you're not using it and all..."
