not really a solution, but if you suspect the pass switching to be the
problem,
you can switch it through the .scntoc
there's a line in there that sets the current pass, you can change it to any
pass you want.
then open the .scntoc rather than the .scn file.
It could help you troubleshoot.
Not sure if you can launch a batch render from the scntoc rather than the
scn file, but ts worth a go.

Subject: rendering complex scenes in batchmode failes.
Hi guys,
I remember I had this problem (Bug?) everytime the last years when dealing
with complex scenes in XSI. When I try to render my scene in batchmode -
it
fails with the following message.
SceneRefresh
' ERROR : 2006-REND-RenderPass - Unexpected failure.
RenderPass "Passes.World_beauty", , 1, 100, 1
Command failed, returned -2147023436
' ERROR : - [line 213]
ERROR - Script failed.
FATAL - Script Aborted.
Maybe switching the pass in batch mode needs so much time that xsi runs in
a
time out? Rendering the scene out of the gui is no problem. Does anybody
remeber which script xsi tries to execute (line 213) and how to fix it?
Any hints? I think this is an old issue.
Thanx in Advance.
