The one I
referred to allowed for realtime playback straight from DPX and TGA
sequences, so no need for compression, and no I/O
needed.
It also worked with its own Codec for
Quicktime, which is what we ended up using, since it was more convenient for
editing.
The arm and a leg is relative.
I think it was ~1k pound at the time
for the HD card, which sounded cheap to me.
Dont know if they come cheaper than that,
and I'm sure they go quite a bit higher too.
And it didnt beat the reliability of a
finishing station.
