I'm a big djv fan. At least in theory, that's exactly
what you're looking for. I've used it for 1k dpx files, but haven't had
a chance to throw it on our 2k raid yet. I've also mostly been using it
on Windows, but in theory, you should get much better results on Linux, since
Windows is really bad at dealing with directories with lots of files.

I
know, you´re asking for a software solution but did you have a look at
the Intensity/Intensity Pro cards from Blackmagic Design
(>Decklink)? http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
Come around $250-350, would likely at least play *.tga
sequences in realtime (from PremierePro) to a HDMI/LCD.
Or are you
looking for the most rudimentary kind of playback? How about Maya fcheck
or XSI´s flipbook? The XSI flipbook does read *.dpx and has a basic
gamma control. You may allready be happy with unchecking "keep images in
memory"?
But if you stumble across a functional
alternative, please
report.
Cheers
