You can pull them apart easily enough if you want to see how they work. Peel
the colours off and you'll see the screws that hold it together. They're
quite neat the way they work, clever piece of thought went into the design.
Someone somewhere did work out a rig for one in xsi I think. Try on XSIbase,
it may have been there. I suspect probably grouping and switching of
constraints might be the answer.
All the cubes are the same size, the centre one can move if you rotate the
centre section.
