Hello,
I am also trying to render a Z channel with XSI 6.5 (32bits) and the
surprise is that all the channels have got the right output format as
defined in the Render Scene option or the override format section....Except
the z channel which unfortunately seems to be locked at 720 X 486. And of
course when trying to do a DOF in the FxTree afterwards it doesn't work
because the zchannel hasn't got the same format than the main.
Any clues on this really annoying "bug"?
Thierry

hmm
i already set the main colour-buffer to pic and the depth-buffer to .zpic
is there anything else besides that i need to do? It saves out the
.zpic and its around 1.6mb for a PAL frame but the fxtree nor the
flipbook can read it..
i tried this in xsi 5.11 and it works fine as long as the output format is
.pic
could you actually try this in xsi to see if it works? I remember
seeing other people on xsibase having the same problem but with no
solution..

You need to render by adding the depth channel and selecting .Zpic, not
.zt,
so that the .Zpic values are remapped properly. It's normal for Zpic
values
to be between 0.0 and 1.0 in the fxtree, it's inside the DOF effect
that the values will be multiplied back into softimage units.
However, ZPic are only avaiable if you also render the color buffer
to softimage .pic, perhaps that is your problem.
