would that include batches?  say we get advanced 6.5,  would 6.0x be able to use the
5   6.5 batches?

Yes, the licenses are backwards-compatible.
 
With a 6.0 license you can run 5.x, 4.x, and 3.x.

are XSI licenses backwards compatible - as in: can you launch v4 or v5 with a v6 license?
In my experience they allways have been (except on the switch from flexlm to spm) but I have a sysadmin claiming otherwise for this installation.
