However, on TheMist I was able to get reasonable rendertimes with true 3DMB. Average frame time was 13 min for creature shots with SSS, AO, and fully buffered passes. It's possible, but it's a TON work.

Last time I tried it (on a fast moving cell-phone spot), the
results where as if I had rendered to fields, thrown away
half of them, gaussian blurred by one pixel, then reprojected...
The only thing left to completely kill the workaround would
have been a mR [autocontrast/autolevels operation on source]
optimization impossible to turn off. Even without that, subjective
loss of sharpness due to sourceimage filtering seemed unacceptable.
