When is XSI going to "upgrade" to MR 3.6? XSI 6.6? those shaders look extremely helpful.

You would need the version compiled for mr3.5, which I think exists, but you'd have to hassle mental images for it.

mental ray 3.6 includes quite a few changes to the data structures for shaders which are probably enough to kill any use of mr3.6 shaders with mr3.5.

YMMV

Hi all,

After some testing with the new production and architectural dll's that are included in MR 3.6, I'm starting to doubt (all) the new shaders will work (at all) in the current 6.5.

Especially the new architectural shader, although according to the pdf's is backwards compatible with MR 3.5 (and XSI is using 3.5.7?), doesn't really work and is locking up XSI after it starts to render.

Unfortunately most of the new shaders work in combination with the improved architectural shader.

There's a thread going on at XSIBase and most of the shaderset is converted:

It would be nice to get this all working. Can someone at Softimage (Halfdan maybe??) comment on this, and if these new shaders can be used in 6.5 somehow until we get MR 3.6 as well?
