Seems if I use any negative value, it returns a corrected png file. 0 leaves it where it is & positive values blow the picture out.
Pngcrush -replace_gamma -1 png_alpha_test.1.png pngcrushoutput.png
Will give a corrected png.
It won't overright the input file which is a shame, but it seems like a feasible fix.
