Hi,
I saw that and may have used it if I could have written to
the rgb channels and not the alpha (unless I missed a
button).
I could then supply finished frames that wouldn't include
the text in a composite.
The program I found will stamp onto an existing frame so
I'm just making a single sequence of all my selected passes (hundreds of 4 frame
passes!) with extra info stamped in.
Ta,
A.

Not exactly what you were after but... check out this cool frame stamp shader Ben wrote. I use it constantly for optimizing render times and archival. The output is fully customizable so you can easily write the scene name into it.

Here is an image to see what it looks like.

Hope it helps a little anyway.

Hi,thanks for looking.I wanted to be able to add the filename info a lot images so I could check them en masse and know where they came from.I Also wanted to add information that may be held in annotations within the passes which is why I wanted to run it from within XSI rather than step outside to after effects or something similar. After effects likes to truncate the names of clips anyway.I found this program which has handy command line functions for manipulating images (including annotate and text functions), and is open source.May be useful to some.Adam.
