its still the same.
kind of awesome, kind of infuriating.

you get no control of any view but the 3d viewports.
so you cant keep you hand on the device.

here is a link i bumped into that may help:
http://cgkit.sourceforge.net/doc2/module-cgkit.spacedevice.html
a python wrapper for the spacepilot sdk.

Does anyone know of any improvements to how the 3d Connexion products interface with XSI?  I know there were some issues in the past as far as it not working in certain viewports and conflicts with the camera history stack.  A developer there said it was due to problems with XSI's API.  I submitted a request to Softimage about it but I haven't heard anything in quite awhile from either side.  Can anyone from Softimage comment on this?

Do you get better playback using MIDI controllers when capturing that
you do with the mouse? I tried messing around with the capturing but
XSI was playing back so slow that I couldn't really do anything with
it. And I'm not talking about enveloped characters or anything, it was
a few cubes or something painfully simple. Someone suggested the mouse
driver may have been really inefficient but I have no idea.
