Its been a while, since Barnyard and XSI 4.0, but one of the things we use to do was check/modify the scntoc file (which is just a xml scheme in a text file) to modify scenes, check/validate texture paths and so forth.
This was a lot faster then actually opening a scene.
I am not sure how much the scntoc file has evolve (or what can be saved out, and in what format for a "delta" file). But I have always be a proponent for a long time for SoftImage to provide a xml based (ascii) way to save out scene information. For any major Feature Film work, this is essential, not an option.

I have written several script that would process scenes via -script with no interface. And you do save on performance, as well as memory (especially for large scene) since you are not opening the scene in UI mode.

But I am not sure about any kind of direct Application.xsi activeX Object component being available for you to access within other application (or direct "mainWin" terminal. In general I have found ActiveX Object scripting to be much more powerfull, and easier to handle than via the more traditional route of "generating a script" and then running it via xsi -script <fileName>.

Hopefully some interesting hints for you to try.

Cheers,
RSM

Hello,

I've been enjoying accessing other programs like Excel & Photoshop from XSI.

Wondered how easy it is to access XSI from other scripts in a similar way and if there are soe examples floating around. It would be nice to be able to run Global alterations across a number of scenes automatically rather than having to manually open each scene.

Probably need to rtfm, but pointers would be good.

Ta,

Adam.
