How about a point light with a falloff and no shadows? or is that too directional still?

Really annoying here: Cinema4d has a nice feature where you can turn a light into an ambient light. With falloff, that turns out to be extremely powerful for all kinds of fake stuff, e.g. with ambient point lights on particles, that seems to make objects they pass through glow. It also renders unbelievably fast.
Doesn't XSI have something similar?
hope so... I'd hate loosing a battle to Cinema;-)
cheers!
