you are right about locks. they are kind of weird and unfriendly sometimes.

if you can log that with support maybe something will be done about it ;) some day

I agree. Softimage could give use the choice to customise the error message when trying to delete a locked object.

It is possible to turn off the "Log Messages" but is it possible to turn off error message ?
