A "switchboard" between two simple transforms can work ok, but it requires a user to toggle the direction of the the master / slave relationship especially if you want it to be animatable. Though, doing something like this on a IK chain for example is highly prone to not working!
So I too would like to see a comprehansive bi-directional cosntraint introduced in XSI.

Things usually play ok until you start setting keyframes.  Like to see a
bi-directional constraint solution in XSI myself.
