JScript, while showing the structure of a mature programming language, is not nearly as bloated as Python is. Python is overwhelming in functionality, and especially for starters it is very difficult to find a safe path in there. In that sense JScript is a very nice starting point, and once someone has learned how good code is constructed, adepting to Python is not much of a problem anymore.

Tim, why do you wanna learn jscript? It's pretty much obsolete as far as Microsoft are concerned.
With Python you can also script for a lot of other apps (Maya, Houdini, Shake, Massive [I think], shell scripts and so on) and there is a lot of resources, tutorials and documentations for it (although maybe not so much for XSI...).

A far better weapon to your CG career than jscript in my opinion.

Cheers,
Axel

    i can second that.
you need information about the internals in XSi more than how a for
loop is constructed in any language. the syntax is fast to learn. the
problems come when you want to find something in the SDK or dont know
that certain methods/commands/objects exist and could make you live so
    much easier!
