Sorry chaps. I was exaggerating a little on the size of character for dramatic effect. He has, however, a lot of polygons, too many to point oven. I continued to persevere last night with this problem (I see my mail from this time yesterday has only just arrived on the list!). What I think i was on the verge of discovering was that ik and fk can transfer okay so long as you check plot in the crosswalk setting. Things worked okay on simple skeleton /envelopes and also from a bvh sourced motion capture skeleton which is basically a pretty simple FK setup with just bones. The problem seemed to be traced back to the one or more of the following:  having implicit vertebrae in the spine, curves as deformers ie hips and chest and roll division nulls in the forearm. Taking these out of the rig resulted in the problem disappearing (although the enveloping was buggered but it proved a point). I haven't yet got around to replacing these rig items. In the meantime I deformed a simple sphere with a combination of implicit cubes, nulls and curves as skeletons. Unfortunately this transfered okay so I'm not sure where I am now...........................

5 Trillion.... thats not a typo?
Yikes.. I thought some of the meshes I'd been working on lately were
dense.

I've had envelopes go over without problem.. but the one thing that
always seems to be the case, is parenting is lost between joints and
bones.. The envelope info however goes over intact..
Fk though.. not IK.. and even if you add IK in Maya, the integrity of
the chain is destroyed.

Your .xsi file is going to be enormous however and will likely crash on
import. I've moved a couple million polys over, with a small wait time
for transfer.. I ended up exporting as Binary instead of Ascii if thats
any help

Hello

This has probably been covered before but I wasn't paying
attention. Has
anyone successfully used crosswalk to get an enveloped
character from
xsi to maya?

I haven't so any advice would be gratefully received. I have a 5
trillion polygon character made up of millions of separate bits
so using
any sort of shape baking procedure is probably out of the
question. As
usual I am testing out the principal simply on a sphere
and a 3 bone
chain. I have tried all 5 export optopns in the export to maya
option
under crosswalk My incompetence is taking me by surprise. Can
anyone help?
