So 32 --> 64 is okay, but 64 --> 32 is not okay?  That seems weird.

Anyway, the update for now is that using 8-bit 8K .map files (eliptical at 20, 4, .3) renders at a pretty decent speed.  Rendering a rather large region with the asset more or less fully framed up took about 5 minutes.  If I turn on occlusion, cpu usage is back around 100%.  Good stuff.

I probably won't really be able to test with floating-point 8K .map files, as I don't have access to a 64-bit windows machine or a 32-bit linux machine.  I may just have to create one, though.  If I do and I have time, I'll post an update.

Maps generated in 32bit XSI / MR will work in 64bit XSI / MR.

I'm using a 32bit machine but all my rendernodes are 64bit.

Can't say the same is true for windows / Linux.

.map files will work on both architectures, but only on the
architecture on which they're generated.

I believe .map files generated on 32bit linux work fine on 32bit
windows, as I'm pretty sure I'd have heard complaints, but I can't say
I've actually tested it.

Cheers,

Alan.
