Gradient node for reflection?

Hey guys,

A friend of mine asked me this and I wasn't sure what was the best
way.. how can I use a gradient node for non-raytraced reflections on a
reflective/shiny material?

Plugging a Texture->Gradient node straight to the Environment input on
the material node doesn't fully give the desired results. Is there a
better way?
