We have the problem here too.
It seems to be related to some windows recent update. Didn't had time to
investigate it yet though.
The problem appeared on one Vista 64 bit workstation here. It's
interresting to learn that the problem appeared on XP 64 bit too.
( XSI 64 bit runs fine too )

Yeah, like I said, reinstalled it, deleted user prefs...so its all
factory default. There is obviously something broken somewhere in
windows I'm thinking....and this may mean a complete rebuild which
I will not be happy about. I'm trying to avoid that at all costs.

Strange that it is logged when you try to start xsi and load a
