In qwerty it's the D key. It's not like the tool is gone if you use the maya style.

Because the maya way is more accepted in the industry and more apps already support it.

Would you want to try and change the industry as a whole? Or one application? :)

I'm pretty much just S for most camera navigation - though seems I
different on that one.

Though having said all this I appreciate the navigation can let
someone get basics running quickly.
