I disagree with your statement, Brad. Left handedness
is not purely a choice. Sure, you can retrain yourself to use the other
hand/foot, but the body is wired up to work a certain way. Forcing people
to use a hand/foot which is not native can lead to frustration and inhibit the
person from reaching full potential because it goes against the person's natural
instincts.
Kind of reminds me of golf lessons when I was a kid.
All the teachers tried to force me to be right handed (I refused) so they could
sell me the clubs they carry in the pro shop. Never once did they take
themselves out of their own shoes and try to see it from the other point of view
that perhaps left handedness has advantages. Nor did they consider it
might be easier to teach a left hander because the teacher would essentially be
a mirror image the student could play off of and mimick for faster
learning. Turning the tables around, I've found it much easier
to teach sports to people as a left hander for that very reason.
In the case of golf, most courses are designed to be difficult for the
right handed player. What is a weak fade shot for a right hander is a
strong power draw for a lefty. Makes a huge difference in your approach
shot the green as a power draw can add 30 yards to your range over a fade.
Now that the game has evolved into the 17th century and left handed equipment
are being produced in larger quantities, we're seeing more left handers come up
through the top ranks in the sport.
Einstein, Da Vinci, and a host of other genius' who changed
our world significantly were left handed. They knew only left handers were
in their right minds. I think it's the right handers that need special
retraining to make them realize there's a bigger world outside their box
;-)

Sorry Greg. Just like red hair, left-handedness is a choice. You
and Matt will have to go to one of those special retraining
camps.

Want to give my keymap a whirl? I've been hammering out most of
the kinks like this for a while.
Let me know and I'll email
it.
Matt, try using the mouse with your right hand!
