Sure you are right there are very good tools already, but it's hard to convince a lot of people to convert from lightwave because of the learning curve. I think if we use MR basic shaders translation this integration can make the transition safer , for a begining.
Then the excellent OSS affogato would be a great complement for people who can't afford the studio version for rib conversion asdn other big pipeline requierements.
There have been good quality rib converters for maya for years but in a similar fashion, it looks like renderman for maya has made the user base sundently bigger, attracting people without serious renderman knowledge. This tool will certainly help in the negociation with that kind of people...
3DL for XSI though is an amazing effort, and the DNAsoft guys are definitely people who give a damn about their product and their customer base.
