I really like Slack as a desktop OS, it also has very stable development and life cycle path. Plus it comes as lightweight as it gets.
I am afraid of old fedoras cause of hardware issues and at other hand I am afraid of new fedoras since they are spit out before they have reasonable time to mature. Multimedia station for workstation just doesnt sound right...
Some time ago I deployed Cent OS 5 to two of our servers, so far I am very pleased with it, mainly cause of its very good compatibility to RH Enterprise. As Nuke has good support for Cent OS then thats probably what I am going to try out.

Thanks Alan, I'll bug you when time gets so far :)

Thanks all for your replys,
Tauno

awwww shucks, now I feel bad.

I haven't tried XSI with many distros at all, but I would say I've
seen someone post
about having trouble getting it running on a wide range of them.

I think with Soft's current linux status you're going to need to learn
a bit about what
you're doing on linux to have hope with any of them.

Main thing I'd recommend from the postings is to avoid Debian based distros
(Ubuntu is one of these) as I've still not seen anyone confirm it's
worked on these.

Tauno, pick the distro you like, be sure to run setup from a (t)csh
shell then post
if you hit issues and I'll try help resolve it.

I would advise avoiding FC5 and 6 also because both of these have gone EOL
(end of life - there is no support for developers for these). You are
likely to hit
issues with newer hardware if you use EOL distros because there are occasions
where new hardware requires a new driver which in some cases only works
with newer kernels and/or Xorg. These will not be available on EOL distros.

Cheers,

Alan.
