Vista is no worse or no better than any other OS. For every bad thing in
Vista there's a bad thing in Linux so you pick what works best for you and
that should be enough. Evangelism isn't a frame of mind I subscribe to;
someone's choice of OS, just like his or her choice of religion is his own
affair and I've never really understood why anyone would be so concerned
about someone else's choice of OS. (feel free to subsitute '3D animation
package' for any occurrence of 'OS' in the above)

I continue to think that some Linux distros are easier to use than
Windows. My current favorite is Mandriva for two reasons:
- Is is easy to use AND administer (which is not the case of Ubuntu).
- When installed with the help of easyurpmi, you get all the useful
codecs and flash player you need to enjoy a painless internet
experience
(which is far from being the case on Windows).
I am planning on installing it on my Mother's computer and see how
she's
doing. She has no experience with Windows whatsoever.
