I have already done that Dan, i believe they are even off by default
these days..

also I muted all viewports and it did very little to speed it up. I've
been working with the texture-editor for years and it has always been
slow and it NEEDS to be fixed soon, XSI is generally good with
highpoly stuff but having the TE so slow is simply unacceptable.
