one would hope that readers of VFX World KNOW
exactly the history and pedigree of a product like mental ray, no?

For crying out loud. Autodesk Maya
and Max combine for the heavy majority of the DCC marketshare. Their
mention in that context is simply to familiarize the reader with mental ray
and how it fits within the industry, it's not a historical timeline of all
it's milestones and accomplishments or a commercial
endorsement.

...D: Let's
start with mental images... JB:
They're known for [renderer] mental ray, which is pretty ubiquitous in any
of the design applications. It's the renderer within Max and Maya; it's the renderer on the CAD side as
well.So you get a lot of pretty pictures
rendered with mental ray, which today is no longer 100% CPU
based....
Well and if you consider that the
article talks about the future of Mental Images? And they don't say anything
about XSI?

Considering the article is not about Softimage, why do they have to
mention it at all?
Matt
and not a single mention of how softimage made integrations
with these technologies before almost anyone
